Yes, My Accent Is Real: and Some Other Things I Haven't Told You | Read-along

I'll be the judge of that, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

He titles the chapters, which is great! It makes each individual story feel full and complete.

Unfortunately, I did not keep notes when I started or for every chapter. So here are some thoughts I remember having:
  • Either he's joking or boy doesn't know what a memoir is
  • He didn't wash his bedsheets the first year he was living in a dormitory in college. He thought it was gross (and it is) but my oldest brother is soooooo much worse. I wish I could tell Kunal that he doesn't have to feel too much shame. My oldest brother went years without washing his bedsheets. Gross brother eventually bought new ones but guess what? He didn't wash it before putting it on!

Dinners with Dad
  • "This is not goodbye, this is many more opportunities to say hello" - his dad
  • "On Children" is a poem by Kahlil Gibran from The Prophet.
    • I especially like the highlighted parts.
I have yet to sit and think about what the second half means
Judgement Day in Boise
  • heh. hand-me-down tiger underwear
  • I agree that his senior was a jerk and should have answered his question a lot more quietly and nicely. Also, from the sounds of it, Kunal wasn't taking the play too seriously. I forgive him for joining because he wanted to meet girls but I believe him when he says he wanted to make friends and fit in. I also believe him when he says that he would be kind to anyone asking him for advice, that it is a compliment.

The Girl I Went to Mass For
  • I know he was jokinggg but like. No. I would not be flattered at all if a dude thought I was hot enough to sleep with. I would be disgusted. I don't like people talking about me in general

Kumar Ran a Car
  • I don't like when people don't take their job seriously or purposely do it all wrong. Especially when it's not just you.
  • I thought it was nice that he would go back in time to comfort his boss (the dude he made fun of behind his back) who was missing his family back in China and struggling to keep his scholarship. Kunal saw at that moment that they were the same. Two foreigner dudes, dealing with this alone. But, he wasn't able to extend his friendship. Understandable, saying the right things or becoming friends doesn't always come naturally. I wonder if part of it was subconsciously due to his boss not being a girl, knowing the relationship wouldn't benefit the same way. And I don't think I'm being harsh on Kunal. A lot of his actions were female motivated. Which isn't all bad. I have friends that went to college with the goal of finding a husband and classmates that admitted only sitting next to cute girls. Being motivated by the opposite sex isn't itself horrible. But I'll get back to why I'm not fond of Kunal later.

Lollipops and Crisps
  • Boy licked a girls eyeball and they started dating. Gross
  • Grace sucks
  • Well, he got over her quickly
  • Love is not a selfish thing

Puppies
  • New fear unlocked. The cutest baby ever, Avery, chocking on his baby teeth

James Bond and the Mouse
  • Dad tried to shoot a mouse but it escaped.
  • Kunal now likes to sometimes think about that mouse. Imagines him on a beach somewhere in a hula skirt, smoking a cigar, drinking a Corona, reminiscing about him (Kunal)
  • His dad and my dad like headlamps
  • The more pockets the better! So of course, his dad needs a giant coat for India weather. I love that he bought it for him
    • Shen I was younger the more pockets you had in your pants or backpack, the cooler they were.  Same applies to cars. Measured the worth of a car by the amount of cupholders they have. I always knew the minivan was great

And then I Fell in Love
  • His brother and a waiter were present throughout his first date with Neha (future wife). I laughed when he said that every time he tried joked with Neha, he would glance at his waiter to see if he laughed too since well, he had an audience and he's a performer. He did not succeed in making the waiter laugh
  • I love flip flops (I'm just okay with slides). Boooo he sucks!
  • I agree with him; kind is an underrated trait when it comes to dating or people in general.
    • When Kunal's friends would ask him for dating advice, he'd ask them if who they're dating is kind. Because according to him, everything is funny when you're enamored with someone.

My Big Fat Indian Wedding
  • the nervous poops
  • an introvert's nightmare

Good-bye
  • thank goodness

Some overarching themes and thoughts I have on this book
  • 3.25 out of 5.0
    • I added the 0.25 because I did laugh and find some parts cute
  • He talked about girls a lot more than I thought he would. Though, I guess it's on brand with his Raj character form The Big Bang Theory. Also, I do be boy obsessed at times, especially when I was younger. Just, a lot more innocent.
  • I didn't think this book painted him in a good light for me. I forgot he existed, picked this book up, and now whenever I see and hear his name, I'll forever think about all the things I don't like about him, not as a character but as a person
    • It reminded me of how I'd feel about trying not to learn about my coworker's personal life. Please. Don't make me judge you D:
  • I was surprised by all the acting awards and recognitions he got during school because he didn't stand out to me the couple of times I would watch The Big Bang Theory. He also said he could sing so I looked his singing up on youtube. There aren't many videos of it on there but he's alright.
  • I thought he sounded a bit manipulative. These are stories told from his point of view and whether or not he meant to do it on purpose, it sounded like he was making himself to look like the better person. He tried to do it in his reflections of the situation but I felt like he could reflect even more on a situation. I'm horrible at explaining. I didn't take much notes. Basically, he could've reflected more. And any reflection he did write down, it was just generic crab to make him sound 'good' or redeemable. I always thought withCindy was crazy for having "not reflective" enough as a critique for a book but I kinda get it now

Dead-End Café in the Royal Capital | Info & Read-along

Dead-End Caf é  in the Royal Capital Author Shuu Artist Yutoto Left to Right: Henry Howler, Cat, Mai SYPNOSIS Mai Sasaki lived a quiet life in Tokyo-until illness claimed her after just 26 years. But on the brink of death, her grandmother bestows a final gift: the knowledge of magic and the power to start anew in another world. Healthy once again and filled with purpose, Mai opens a small cafe named "The Hideaway", tucked at the very end of a quiet street in the royal capital. Her goal? To use her second change to bring comfort, warmth, and delicious food to others. One of her most frequent (and mysterious) customers is Henry, the kingdom's top scribe. Dignified and composed, he seems to carry secrets far heavier than the stacks of parchment he handles at the castle. A story of second chances, gentle magic, and quiet love begins in a cozy café that feels like home.  Why did I pick up this manga? As always, it looks cute and I like that the FL isn't super young...
